SRI Data

I keep a spreadsheet that calculates Lexile data for our entire campus. This spreadsheet utilizes the testing data to track trends and progress with the students. I had managed to create formulas in the sheet to count various ranges of data, but every time we tested the campus, I had to painstakingly sort through the data to update my formulas and then verify that all of the data was correctly tabulated. While this took a great deal of effort and time, the most aggravating part of this process was when we wanted to compare older sets of data, which meant there needed to be multiple versions of the spreadsheet saved or printed to allow us to go back since it was such a difficult process to adjust. What I was needing to alleviate my frustration was a way to streamline this process and give me the ability to quickly adjust the spreadsheet to switch between sets of data for quicker comparisons.

The prior solution created a waste of resources, such as paper and ink as well as digital storage space. Additionally, the previous solution also created an issue with requiring more time to devote to adjusting datasets or finding the correct file to view for the comparison.

Though I'm not certain "how" he fixed it, I do know that he was able to create an extremely quick and simple way for us to utilize the same spreadsheet to sort our data without needing to print it or create multiple copies. Now, all I have to do is change the data in a single cell to denote which data range I need to compare. This has greatly simplified how we collect data and given us the ability to use our spreadsheet much more efficiently than before to produce valuable data that we've been able to provide our Superintendent and School Board.

His solution has alleviated a great deal of stress from the data collection that I do for our campus and helped to free up a lot of time and resources that were devoted to maintaining our data. With great ease I am now able to simply change a single letter in a single cell to update all of my charts and data tied to the information in my Lexile data spreadsheet. This year, this solution has been especially timesaving as we have been trying to compare data before the COVID shutdown to the data of this year in order to help gauge the progress of our students compared to previously unaffected years. Without his solution, we would have had to manually pour over printed files or spent precious time refiguring the old spreadsheets to account for the appropriate time periods we needed to compare.

This solution was wonderful and I loved how quickly he was able to incorporate it into my existing spreadsheet to solve what was once a very frustrating situation.
